    About Gregor Diagnostics

    Gregor Diagnostics Inc. is a Madison, WI based, venture-backed, molecular diagnostics company developing novel molecular diagnostics for improved prostate cancer detection and patient management. Gregor’s test will be the first of its kind to not only detect prostate cancer at the earliest stages but also differentiate between indolent and aggressive cancers.


    Summary of Major Responsibilities

    The Senior Data Scientist will be involved in Research and Development projects serving as a lead and subject matter expert in the analysis of Gregor’s high-complexity clinical and biomarker data and developing models to convert multi-modal biomarker data into actionable predictive tools for physicians managing patients. The Senior Data Scientist will work closely lab scientists, clinical data managers, as well as senior leadership of the company, and reports to the Chief Scientific Officer. They will also work routinely to analyze and interpret data, and may be asked to assist in biostatistical analyses a part of clinical trial design efforts.


    The role requires a broad knowledge of cancer biology, bioinformatics, statistics, and programming, paired with effective communication skills.


    Essential Duties and Responsibilities

    1. Mine and analyze large data sets, including data pre-processing and clean up. Investigate data for covariates and potential biases.
    2. Develop methods for feature selection and fitting features to machine-learning and neural network models. Develop statistical and predictive models for genomic and health-related data sets. Establish visualization tools, and processes, to assess model performance.
    3. Coordinate with R&D team members to interpret input assay data for incorporation into models. Coordinate with clinical team members to interpret input patient characteristics for incorporation into models.
    4. Contribute to the research and development of applying latest developments of AI technologies
    5. Conduct data analysis in support of clinical trials and collaborations and contribute to manuscript drafting for peer-reviewed journals and patent filings.
    6. Support and assist colleagues and external collaborators in data preparation and analysis.
    7. Gregor maintains large clinical and lab databases, and this role requires expertise in understanding, maintaining, and improving database structure and schema.
    8. Lead and/or provide oversight of all statistical analyses in support of ongoing clinical studies, as well as design of future clinical studies.
    9. The candidate should be familiar with AWS or other cloud storage solutions.


    Education and industry experience:

    • PhD or MSc with 3+ years of professional experience in Computer Science, Statistics, Computational Biology, Scientific computing or other relevant areas.
    • Experience applying machine-learning and/or neural network models to interpret high-complexity biological data sets. Preferably with experience in diagnostics test development. Experience performing data analysis on large datasets is a requirement. Experience downloading and working with publicly available datasets is a plus.
    • Knowledge of a variety of machine learning techniques (clustering, decision trees, artificial neural networks, etc.) is required.
    • Experience applying data visualization tools and presenting findings to internal stakeholders as well as collaborators.
    • Ability to quickly and efficiently adapt to new concepts. Staying up to date with developments in the field of machine-learning diagnostics and interpretation of key advancements is critically important.
    • Strong interpersonal and communication skills (both written and verbal); ability to communicate with people in a wide variety of areas and at various levels from technical specialists to executives.
    • Knowledge in cancer biology, bioinformatics, and genomics. Work/research experience with public genomic data platforms (GEO, TCGA, MSigDB, etc. or equivalent) is a plus.
    • Proficient at conducting data analysis and processing with R and SQL.
    • Working knowledge of at least one of the following programming languages: JavaScript, Python, GO.
    • Self-starter and independent learner. Experience working in startup companies is a plus.
    • Curiosity and eager to learn. Strong problem-solving skills.
    • A strong record of scientific research publications is preferred.

    Job Location

    Gregor Diagnostics is based in Madison, WI. The position can be remote. Must be willing to travel up to 20% of the time.
